Lesson Policies

Release Forms:
All required paperwork/release forms are to be completed and given to either Janet or Craig prior to the beginning of your first lesson.

Riding Attire:
An approved riding helmet and appropriate riding boots with a heel are required. Hair should be up under helmet or in a ponytail.

Arriving for Lesson & Lesson Duration:
Students need to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to a scheduled lesson. Most lessons are scheduled back to back, so unfortunately, late students will get less time in the saddle. After the lesson, students need to allow for at least 15 minutes to properly groom their horse. In addition, all equipment needs to be cleaned and put away. Note: Initial lessons will involve learning horsemanship skills so actual riding time may be reduced.

Lesson Payment:
Lessons are sold in monthly packages. Lesson spots and horses/ponies are reserved for you for the entire month. Tuition is due the first of every month and as a courtesy, Elk Grove Riding Club can email your invoice upon request. A full statement of your account is always available by request. If payment is not received by the 5th, there will be a $25 service charge. Students will not be allowed to ride if payment has not been received by the 10th of the month.

Jumping Lessons:
Two lessons per week minimum are required for jumping, the 1st lesson to be a flat lesson, the 2nd lesson to jump. Good flat work is the basis of good jumping and it is important for students to learn both. Flat lessons may include going over poles and cavalettis.

Parents and Spectators:
All parents and spectators are asked to please observe lessons from the viewing area in the arena. For your safety, only staff and students are to be in the aisle ways or grooming areas when horses are present. When on the premises, siblings must remain with a parent.

Cancellation and Make-up Lesson Policy:
Lesson slots and horses/ponies are reserved for you for the entire month. Should you know in advance that you would miss a lesson, you are still responsible for paying for that lesson time slot. Reasonable effort will be made to accommodate one make-up lesson per month. Students must call more than 24 hours in advance to be eligible for a make-up lesson and the make-up lesson must be scheduled within 30 days of the absence. Missed lessons cannot be deducted from the amount due. No-shows or late calls forfeit the cost of the lesson.
